Park City

Park City is just excellent. Hard to wrap more words around it. Two different large ski areas connected by a gondola. Lots of long and adventurous green trails to get warmed up, and many  Orange Triangles to explore even further. It also has one of our favorite lodges which you can read about on our Best Whisky on the Mountain page.

As you know by now, the normal trail difficulty designations are specific to the mountain and not universal. Meaning a green in Park City will not be as easy as a green trail on the East Coast of the U.S. And Park City has a lot of great, long greens, some that may even be challenging for an Orange Triangle skier, so take some time warming up on Home Run and ClaimJumper. There are also many blues that are shown on the map in “slow” zones which you can probably tackle. We wanted to point out the less obvious runs which are perfect for an Orange Triangle skiers.

Payday – While not the most Orange of the Orange Triangles on this mountain, you can hit it right from the Mountain Village lifts and travel back to the lifts once again. It’s also one that will be open and well-groomed no matter what part of the season you are in. Stay to the right in the one middle section for a shallower slope before the intersections start. This trail can be crowded at the end of the day but it is nice and wide.

White Pine – This trail is a connector but an important one because it allows you to get from the Canyons-side of the Quicksilver Gondola to be able to ride in the Canyons, specially to take the Dreamcatcher lift up to Panorama

Panorama – This beautiful trail is what it sounds like: All the views from the ridgeline in all directions. Like many of the Canyons trails it is narrow and have a steep drop off an edge so make sure you are comfortable checking your speed on narrow trails. We recommend getting comfortable on the many greens at Park City so you can tackle some of these upper trails in the Canyons. You can do laps on this or pick up the next Orange Triangle at the bottom – Harmony.

Harmony – Probably the best Orange Triangle in this large park, Harmony winds through a remote residential area in the upper mountain with an interesting mix of large and beautiful houses and mountain and forest scenery. The trail can be narrow at times and has quite a few bridge crossings but is rarely steeper than a green and when it is they are very short sections. The trail takes you all the way down to the Tombstone lift and Timberline Gondola.

Silver Spur – This narrow and relatively short (by Rocky Mountain standard) connector is a simple chair and helpful to connect from the top of the Tombstone Express lift and get to the Peak 5 lift to then ride the next Orange Triangle on a beautiful, long, and winding trail all the way back to the bottom.

Upper Harmony – The upper portion of Harmony is the winding beginnings of the best long ride on the mountain for you Orange Triangle skiers.

Red Pine Road– The other Orange Triangle option from the top of Tombstone Express, this time winding you down through the forest to the bottom of the Saddleback Express lift where you can run laps on the last numbered Orange Triangle trail for this large mountain park.

Snow Dancer – One of many intermediate trails listed as a “Slow Zone” on the Park City trail map, this one is worth mentioning because it is in a Slow Zone at the top of a mountain and worth the ride for the view and slightly less crowds. You can run laps on this Orange Triangle and enjoy the views!

We have two Orange Triangle trail opportunities here that deserve consideration but also discussion. If you have feedback on these please send us an email!

  • Treasure Hollow – After a few runs on the green Homerun and your confidence is up you can tackle Treasure Hollow. The entry is a little steep which is why it remains unnumbered for now. But maybe by your second or third day on the mountain and you are confident in your turns you can use these speedy alternative to some of the flatter Homerun sections
  • Georgiana – This trail is worth it for the views and the only way for an Orange Triangle skiers to ski the upper ridgeline and experience the McConkey’s Express lift. Make sure you stay left to avoid the black Tycoon, stay on Georgiana, and pick up Snow Monkey back to McConkey’s. There you can do another lap, or head down the green Flat Iron and the other potential Orange in Jonesy’s. We didn’t verify these trails Orange Triangles status ourselves, but tripadvisor.com user TumbleweedandCactus has a great writeup on this and other approachable blue trails on Trip Advisor.
