Timberline Mountain

Located in the Canaan Valley of West Virginia, Timberline is a great East Coast mountain for intermediate skiers. Because of its location in the western Allegheny mountains, it sees real snow earlier, more often, and holds snow later in the ski season than a lot of other East Coast mountains. Because of its distance from large population areas, the slopes are not crowded and you can also find cheap lodging nearby to extend your stay for multiple ski days if you decide to ski a second day on Timberline or head over to Canaan. Like most East Coast mountains there are not many blue trails to discuss here, but we’ve done the work for you so you can enjoy your time on the mountain!

Lower Dew Drop – This is the first orange triangle you should take off of the lower "New Quad Chair" lift to get ready for your orange runs after the greens. Its a nice easy run with a wide track to make your turns without issue. After a run or two you can switch to taking the longer orange triangles from the top.

Twister - This is the best orange triangle to take from the top of the mountain. Nice wide sweeping turns with nothing too steep or long to warrant scrubbing a lot of speed on your turns. There is a 90 degree steep right turn that is best taken on the left so you have a shallower run down the slope.

Upper Dew Drop - This trail is more on the face of the mountain and more exposed to rougher weather conditions than Twister. It also means more folks dart down it and scrub off any powder, so it was a bit icy which can make the turning more tricky than some orange skiers are comfortable with. But if its not too foggy or windy, and there is a nice amount of snow on the mountain, you will find this is a nice run once you get your legs fully under you later in the day.

Lower White Lightning - This is a rare "black" that we listing here on Orange Triangles. When we were on the mountain in March of 2021, the trail was actually marked blue, and therefore we had to take it to find out if it is actually orange. And it is! But only if the mountain has had good, natural snow. This is not a groomed trail and it is just a shallow-sloped, short set of moguls. Stay to the left after the green White Out trail splits off to the right. Its a nice introduction to moguls for the orange triangles skier. To get there cut across the Crossroad to the right after coming down Upper Dew Drop.

Lower Thunderstruck - Thanks to the popular Thunderstruck drinking game in our group we had to take a run at this one. And we promise its not the alcohol talking but this can be run as an orange triangle. It is very similar to Lower Dew Drop. Some of the more experienced in our group said the upper section was also orange but we don't have concensus there. Just like Lower White Lightning, you'll cut across the CrossRoad trail in the middle of the mountain after coming down Upper Dew Drop.
